I didn’t know that humorist David Sedaris had OCD. You may have heard him on NPR or read him in the New Yorker, or some of his books Last winter I stage managed a couple of his works done as one acts. “The Santaland Diaries and “A Christmas Letter” Very funny stuff.

This morning I was looking through Again and Again and found this…

Salon.com Audio | “Naked”
Listen to Sedaris read “A Plague of Tics” from his collection “Naked.”

It’s a four minute mp3(I couldn’t get the real player version to work) of him reading from one of his collections of essays. Definitely worth the listen.

Newsday.com: Is he really batty?
We decided to ask some experts just what it is this guy is all about.

Beginning with his dark obsession.

“I think probably what’s bothering Batman is not obsessive compulsive disorder, but something called obsessive compulsive personality disorder, said M. Joann Wright, staff psychologist at Hofstra University. “It’s a preoccupation with perfectionism, with morality and ethics and values – a scrupulous, inflexible thinking about morals and values. And people with OCPD will often be so devoted to work and productivity that they exclude leisure-time activities. I think that really fits Batman.”

Stikes me a just about right.
