Think we've discussed this before but I tend to go with the genetic angle as well.

True or not, I just don't think it's a curable thing as so many of these medical 'breathroughs' seem to mistakenly hint at in their reports - just controllable. Assuming an underproduction of serotonin is the primary reason (big assumption), I think you're born with a low level which eventually dips below the critical point - at which time you change from having the 'potential' to develop OCD to actually developing it.

By the time you get to the stage of diagnosis and treatment, most of us have already done so much prolonged psychological damage to ourselves that full recovery is impossible both medically and psychologically I guess. Also, regarding whatever chemical/chemicals cause it, isn't there a possibility that (as with other elements of the body) once you drop below a certain level then the brain simply stops producing it altogether?

I go with the 'brain not operating properly' theory although what isn't linked to genetics?
I agree too that a trigger may be involved... probably emotional, crisis or something like that.
